William Syson Foundation seeks applications for the advancement of the arts, culture and heritage (applications may be made at any time)

The William Syson Foundation is seeking grant applications for the advancement of the arts, heritage and culture, including (but not restricted to) promoting, developing and ensuring the practice and enjoyment of the arts, including music, the visual arts, theatre and literature,

The Foundation has a particular (but not exclusive) focus on Scottish organisations and individuals resident in Scotland.

Activities which fall within charitable purposes include the following:

o Visual arts, meaning works of art created to be appreciated by sight, such as painting, sculpture, and film-making.
o Performing arts, meaning creative activity performed in front of an audience, such as music, drama, theatre, and dance.
o Literature, and
o Heritage, where there a significant element of the Arts is included.

The following funding is available:

o Small Grants up to £5,000.
o Large Grants from £5,001.
o A proactive grants programme.
o Scholarship or bursary funding via specific institutions, and
o Award schemes for individuals.

Eligibility Criteria

o Charities registered in the UK.
o Other ‘not for profit’ organisations, including:
    > Voluntary or unincorporated associations.
    > Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations (SCIOs) or companies limited by guarantee.
    > Trusts.
    > Community Interest Companies (CICs).
    > Co-operatives, and
    > Public sector organisations.

o Individuals are funded through:
    > Bursaries, scholarships and other formally constituted schemes arranged directly with institutions, and
    > Specific award schemes run by The William Syson Foundation (the “Foundation”).
