The Watersprite Film Festival is the world’s largest annual international student film festival, held every March in Cambridge, England, and online.
The Festival is currently inviting student filmmakers worldwide to submit short films in fiction, documentary, animation, or experimental genres for a chance to win a range of awards.
The deadline for entries to the 2027 Festival is Friday 18th September 2026.
Since its inception, the Watersprite Film Festival has received submissions from over 115 countries, establishing itself as a leading platform for emerging student filmmakers to showcase their work on an international stage.
Films can be submitted in one of four genres:
o Fiction.
o Documentary.
o Animation, or
o Experimental.
Each film is eligible for a wide range of awards including genre, technical, and special categories such as Social Impact and Film of the Year.
To be eligible, at least two out of the director, producer, and writer must have been students during the film’s production, and proof of student status is required for verification; technical awards require the responsible student to have held student status at the time of production.
All nominated filmmakers are offered travel and accommodation bursaries to attend the festival in person.
