The Music Therapy Charity – small grants of up to £3,000 are available to music therapists across the UK, including research students, to support research projects related to music therapy (application deadline: 31 July 2026)

The Music Therapy Charity funds essential and pioneering research and training which support the growth and reputation of the profession. The Charity is currently inviting proposals from music therapists across the UK, including research students, to support research projects related to music therapy.

Small grants of up to £1,500 or medium grants of up to £3,000 are available.

The deadline for applications is Friday 31st July 2026.

The funding supports research projects across all areas of music therapy research. Grants can be used for costs such as part-time salary support for fixed periods, academic or clinical supervision, and the collection and analysis of data.

The Music Therapy Charity particularly welcomes applications for smaller projects and may also support projects that receive co-funding from other sources. Stand-alone applications for participation in or attendance at conferences are not eligible for funding.

The opportunity is open to music therapists and research students in the UK who are working in music therapy research. Successful applicants are required to submit progress reports every six months for longer projects and a final report at the end of the project. Reports must include project aims, research questions, participant numbers, methods, findings, benefits of the work, financial breakdown of the funding, and future research plans linked to the project.

The final report must also include a short public-facing summary or video suitable for publication on their website. This summary should explain the need for the work, who benefits from it, the difference it makes to individuals and society, and why The Music Therapy Charity is the right organisation to fund the work.
