The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation – useful free and low-cost resources for UK charitable organisations

Founded in 1961, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is one of the UK’s largest independent funders.

In 2022, the Foundation provided £36.2m in grant funding towards a wide range of work in support of its 3 main aims

1. To improve Our Natural World.
2. Secure A Fairer Future, and
3. Nurture Creative, Confident Communities.

The Foundation also has a £45m allocation to social investments and a £10m allocation to impact investments. Its funds are generated by the Foundation’s investment portfolio.

Apart from its role as an independent grant-maker, the Foundation also provides information on resources available to voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. Much of this is free or low-cost and covers advice, resources, training and consultancy available to charities, including:

o Cost of Living.
o Digital.
o Evaluation, Impact and Learning.
o Fundraising.
o Legal advice and support, and
o Safeguarding.
