LarkOwl is a consultancy for non-profits run by Caroline Danks and Tony Richardson. Together, they work with charities on everything from high value and commercial fundraising, supporting organisations with planning, scoping and feasibility work.
In addition, Caroline and Tony write the wonderful free resource the Nest Egg, a reader supported publication/newsletter/online hub of resources for over 3,000 fundraisers and non-profit leaders, where they share practical advice about navigating income generation in the For Impact sector.
The Nest Egg recently ran an article entitled “Ten places to look for funding for your charity or non-profit” in which Caroline recommended a number of resources to help agencies identify grant prospects, stating that “fresh research will keep your prospect pool relevant and up to date”.

LarkOwl have perhaps become best known for their benchmarking work and produced reports annually between 2019 and 2021 on the return on investment for different types of fundraising – you can read their 2021 report here.
The survey asked the fundraising community how much their charities spent and raised on different types of fundraising and produced reports which have been downloaded in their thousands (benchmarking is still very much the most visited page on the LarkOwl website).
LarkOwl is running the survey again in 2025 and is asking fundraisers to read the guidance and complete the survey by Friday 28th February 2025.
