Free support for organisations and communities interested in applying to Round 3 of the UK Seafood Fund

Following yesterday’s website article, we were contacted by Rob Poole from Fishing Animateur, an organisation that provides hands-on support to identify, develop and find funding for projects, with and on behalf of fishermen.

Rob and his team have a great amount of experience of the UK Seafood Fund and offer a specialist grant team writing bids to the Fund and supporting projects. Their services are free and Rob’s team have a lot of experience in preparing grant applications to the Fund. They are able to help any communities across the UK with advice and developing project proposals. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is currently inviting applications to Round 3 of the UK Seafood Fund: Infrastructure Scheme.

Around £65 million in grant funding is available through the Infrastructure Scheme. Further information can be found on our website.

The UK Seafood Fund is a £100 million fund set up to support the long term future and sustainability of the UK fisheries and seafood sector.

The fund’s objectives are to:

o Reform and modernise infrastructure to level up and bring economic growth to coastal communities.
o Ensure the best science, research and technology is used in fisheries management.
o Encourage new entrants to the industry and upskill the existing workforce.
o Enable an environmentally sustainable fishing industry that gives most value for money and reflects the long term needs of the sector, and
o Boost UK seafood exports to new and existing markets

The UK Seafood Fund consists of a number of schemes that come under 4 areas of funding

o Infrastructure.
o Science and innovation.
o Skills and training, and
o Exports support.

At least £65 million in grant funding is available through the Infrastructure Scheme. The scheme funds projects that build capacity across the UK fishing sector supply chain. It invests in:

o Improved capability at ports, harbours, processing, and aquaculture facilities.
o The social and economic welfare of coastal communities.
o fleet modernisation, and
o Recreational sea fishing.
