Better World Books 2026 Literacy Grants – grants for literacy-focused organisations in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA to strengthen access to books and learning (application deadline: 28th February 2026)

Better World Books is currently inviting literacy-focused organisations to apply for its 2026 Literacy Grants, an annual initiative dedicated to strengthening access to books and learning opportunities through libraries and community-centred programmes.

The deadline for applications is Saturday 28th February 2026.

Organisations eligible to apply must be based in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada or the United States, although supported projects may be implemented outside the organization’s home country.

Eligible applicants include those with a 501(c)(3) or other recognized tax-exempt status, such as libraries, preschools, public schools, nurseries, churches, and community centres.

The 2026 Literacy Grants are themed “Libraries & Literacy Access” and focus on supporting public libraries, school libraries, and community libraries, strengthening library programs, creating new ways for readers to access books and learning opportunities, and serving book deserts and underserved communities.

The Literacy Grants reflect Better World Books’ ongoing commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and equitable access to education, with a particular emphasis on reaching communities that face barriers to books and learning resources.

Through this grant cycle, Better World Books seeks to celebrate and support the essential role that libraries of all types play in sparking curiosity, fostering connection, and nurturing a lifelong passion for reading. The grants are designed to advance innovative and community-centred projects that enhance access to books, learning resources, and library services within a community.
