The Great British High Street of the Year Awards 2019 opens to applications (deadline 4 July)

The Great British High Street of the Year Awards has just opened to applications for 2019 with a deadline of midnight on Thursday 4 July 2019.

This is an annual competition inviting Town Teams and recognised local partnerships across the United Kingdom to nominate a high street in their area to celebrate the diversity and services that British high streets provide.

A selection of 40 shortlisted finalists will be chosen by an independent judging panel. Those shortlisted high streets are eligible to win up to £15,000 for their local community.

The competition represents an opportunity for councils, businesses, community groups and volunteers to learn from the leading examples of the ways in which high streets are succeeding in overcoming the challenges of a rapidly changing environment.

The prizes available are:

o Champion Award: four National Winners will each win £5,000 to be used as a contribution towards a street party on the winning High Street, a local community initiative or a sustainability programme.

o Rising Star Award: four National Winners will each win £5,000 to be used as a contribution towards a street party on the winning High Street, a local community initiative or a sustainability programme.
