Charities have until 3rd July to apply to take part in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge, which helps to raise millions of pounds for good causes across the UK each year.
The Christmas Challenge 2020 will take place from 12pm on Tuesday 1st December 2020 to 12pm on Tuesday 8th December 2020 when donations to participating charities are doubled.
The annual match-funding event, which was first held in 2008, raised £15.6 million for almost 600 UK good causes in 2019.
After registering – which has a deadline of 5pm on Friday 3 July – charities will have until Thursday 28 August to raise pledges from major supporters that will form the basis of each organisation’s match-fund pot.
The scheme’s “champions”, which are philanthropic organisations including the Reed Foundation and the Childhood Trust, then decide if they are able to offer any additional match-funding support to each charity.
Then, when the event begins on 1 December, charities ask supporters to make donations that will begin to release the match-funding pledged in advance.
To be eligible for the scheme, a charity must be UK-registered and have an annual income of more than £25,000.
Charities must secure match-funding pledges of at least £1,000 in order to be eligible for champion support.
Jonathan Frank, director of the Big Give, said:
“We know that when match funding is on offer people give more, and more people give. So for charities looking to engage their supporters and maximise the impact they can have, applying for the 2020 Christmas Challenge is an opportunity not to be missed.”
The event has raised more than £118m since it was first launched.
