Life Cycle UK is a registered charity (1077575) that has been transforming lives through cycling since 1999.
The charity believes that cycling has a central role to play in improving individual lives, local communities and the environment. The bicycle is a perfect form of transport. It has minimal impact on the local environment, which means it doesn’t contribute to congestion, pollution or the general degradation to our urban environments. It allows people to travel easily, conveniently and cheaply around their local area to access jobs, education, local services; and to visit friends, engage in community life and feel connected to their surroundings. It is an affordable form of independent travel accessible to most able bodied people, and some disabled people; it offers a non-weight bearing form of exercise, allowing people of all ages to keep physically active and it helps people maintain good mental health.
Increasing levels of cycling has a key part to play in tackling the Climate Emergency and Air Pollution Crisis.
Its role is to demonstrate that cycling is not dangerous and that with the right skills and resources, almost anyone can cycle safely and confidently. Life Cycle UK helps change attitudes and behaviour towards cycling by giving people the skills and confidence to cycle safely; and provide thousands of free bike repairs and affordable refurbished bikes each year to give those on low-incomes the tools to do so.
The charity also offers practical, targeted support to individuals with disabilities, mental health illness, offenders, isolated older people and disadvantaged young people through a range of award-winning “Inclusive Cycling Projects”.
Life Cycle UK is based in Bristol but operates in locations across England including North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath, Swindon, Bournemouth, Hereford, Derbyshire and Nottingham, and has
ambitious goals to help 30,000 more people become regular cyclists in the next 3-years.
