Job vacancy – Fundraising Officer, Arnos Vale, Bristol (deadline today!)

Arnos Vale in Bristol is a 45 acre cemetery site representing culture, history, nature, wellbeing, events and memories. 

The charity has recently secured Heritage Lottery funding to employ a Fundraising Officer. You’ll need to be quick to apply though as the deadline is today (although you may be able to contact the charity to ask if you can have a little extra time to apply).

o £26,000 pro rata- 21 hours per week (actual £14,560) (National Lottery Heritage Funded post.)

This wide-ranging fundraising role will be perfect for someone looking to further develop their career in fundraising, giving the successful applicant an opportunity to work across a wide range of fundraising disciplines, with particular interest in Trust and Foundations, individual giving and legacy development.

You’ll be highly organised, proactive and enthusiastic with excellent communications skills. You’ll enjoy building relationships and delivering exceptional customer service. In this varied and busy role, you’ll be the first point of contact for all funder enquires and a key player in the development and delivery of our fundraising strategy.

Specific Tasks

1. General Fundraising
o Lead on the development of a new fundraising strategy for Arnos Vale
o Contribute new ideas for fundraising and identify suitable funding initiatives
o Maintain organised files of all fundraising information and produce reports
o Stay abreast of fundraising good practice, ensuring compliance with codes of practice.
o Contribute updates of fundraising events and activities for newsletters and blogs
o Write and design fundraising materials
o Draft reports and communications to donors
o Monitor fundraising performance
o Work with the Chief Executive to raise the profile of the charity

2. Legacy Giving
o With the CEO develop a strategy around increasing legacy giving
o Design materials and text to develop legacy giving

3. Trusts and Foundations
o Write tailored applications to secure funding
o Build on relationships with existing trust supporters, writing reports to deadlines
o Identify new trusts and foundations that have not previously supported our work, and lead on approaches to them

4. Individual Giving
o Develop public fundraising opportunities and activities
o Provide first line support for all fundraising enquiries and ensure they are followed up appropriately and in a timely manner
o Deliver and develop excellent supporter relationships
o Generate appropriate communications including tailored thank you letters
o Draft communications to supporters as required
o Inspire new supporters to donate, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters

5. Corporate
o Work with other team members to develop a clear corporate offer
o Identify, research and approach local corporate prospects

6. Communications
o Contribute to the production of the Annual Review and Newsletter, including writing copy, liaising with printers and donors
o Support the Marketing Manager with fundraising updates for social media
o Keep the fundraising pages on the website updated

7. Data
o Update and maintain supporter data, ensuring all information relating to funders and prospects is accurate and up to date and adheres to data protection guidelines
o Perform any other duties consistent with the role and / or reasonably required by the CEO

1. Personal Specification
o At least 2 years’ experience in fundraising
o Experience of charity fundraising over a range of methods providing income generation
o Proven record of successful applications for substantial funding from Trusts and other grant-making bodies
o Experience of legacy and gift in wills strategies
o Experience of researching funding opportunities
o A good understanding and knowledge of the fundraising sector
o Up to date knowledge of GDPR

2. Skills and Competencies
o Excellent written skills with the ability to produce concise and creative bids
o High standard of computer literacy
o Demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise own workload with minimum supervision
o Highly organised with great administration and planning skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
o Excellent communication and presentation skills required to build relationships with donors
o Ability to understand and generate budgets
o Ability to set and work to goals and targets
o A flexible and strategic mindset
o Ability to work with a wide range of people including volunteers
o An understanding of the wide range of work carried out at Arnos Vale and its impact
o Able to communicate Arnos Vale’s values and range of work to supporters and stakeholders
o Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
o Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends when required
o Some experience of social media and digital marketing
